Mixed weather today. Left Ravenscar in bright sun but became more overcast as we travelled over the Yorkshire Dales.
First stop was at Thirsk made famous for All Creatures Great and Small. Then moved on to Masham for a lunch stop at the Black Sheep Brewery. I just love this place, the best brewery atmosphere by far.
From here a drive to Leyburn, Burnsall and Bolton Abbey where we stopped for afternoon tea. Sad to see (or not see) the lack of leaves on trees. Same day last year was a completely different story.
Last leg of the journey and we arrived at Paul & Margaret at 4.30pm. A long day but a drive I love over Nidderdale and Wensleydale.
Look forward now to a few days on the Dales and of course the annual family firework party on Saturday evening.

Wednesday 5th November 2014
Another brilliant day although at times on the cold side. Windy on the coast creating some excellent spray and wave formations. Some good photographs.
Drove to Saltburn this morning, a resort that bosts the oldest Pier in the country. Very basic but wonderful to see. The ironwork was very ornate despite hidden by floorboards.
Good to see Oister Catchers on the beach along with Gulls, managed some reasonable photographs.
From here drove to Staithes which is a Village similar to RHB. Only access is by walking and again, pretty steep but well worth the effort. Staithes is now famous for artists and has featured on many TV progs' because of its uniqueness.
Stayed for lunch at the Lobster Pot before moving on for an afternoon at Goathland. Famous of course for the TV prog' Heartbeat. Bordering right on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors you can guarantee some wonderful views. Taking dead end roads I find gives you the best vantage points for photographs.
Another great day out, I was certainly ready for a good pint back at the hotel late afternoon.

A stunning day for visiting Robin Hoods Bay which we overlook from the hotel.
An amazing Village stretching down to the sea. No access for vehicles (except emergency) so walked from the car park just outside the Village. Steep walk down, not good for a man of my age!
Enjoyed a crab sarny lunch at the Victoria before moving on to Whitby for the afternoon. Was the National Goth day held twice a year. An interesting event showing off all manor of different Goth outfits!
Can never tire of visiting Whitby, famous of course for Whitby Jet. I could not resist some cuff links on this visit, am I a Goth now?
Arrived back to the hotel late afternoon, a rest and shower before retiring to the bar for a pint of XPA and a look at today's photographs.

A glorious day. Ideal driving conditions for the long drive to Ravenscar on the North York Moors. Left home at 9.30am and arrived at 4.30pm at the Raven Hall Hotel. Looking forward now to a few days exploring this part of the country.

Without doubt it is a Rat that is visiting the greenhouse each night. Apart from the camera image I also found a large hole under the floor and one into the shed that is close to the greenhouse. Sadly I will have to get rid, can't have these large grey rats taking over the shed and greenhouse.
Exciting day watching the Starlings, unusual to see so many at this time of year. One Starling was in fact winded in the roosting box following a fight.
Cases packed now for the holiday. Four days on the North Yorkshire Moors then six days on the Yorkshire Dales. Stay dry, pleeeeeese.

With rain forecast for tomorrow I decided to cut the lawn and rake up another couple of bags of leaves.
We are in November now and I sat and reflected this afternoon on how much summer colour there still is in the garden.
Looked out some old clothes for the Guy I make every year for the family firework party in Yorkshire. Looks rather dapper dont you think? Good to see he takes after me and enjoys a pint of NQB.
We are all aware how fireworks distress dogs, cats and animals generally. Has anyone thought of the distress to birds from fireworks? Must admit I had not given this any thought until tonight when I was watching the poor Great Tit roosting as seen through the monitor. The poor thing was so agitated. At every bang its whole body jumped then a period of looking about. Most distressing to watch.

Day spent preparing the garden for the annual evening Halloween BBQ with the neighbours.
Was another brilliant evening, Celie and Leilani did the party proud with their impressive home grown Pumpkins.
Lorna as usual produced a great spread including some rather rude looking bananas which created some amusement!
Grateful also for more of Neils home produced beer. A great evening.
