Warm and sunny, complete contrast to yesterday.
Another day on project cables. What a journey this has been. Cut or damaged cables replaced, 16 cables now in place well hidden from predators, you know what I mean?
Just 8 cables now to deal with which were connected to the hide. Hopefully I will see this finished during the coming week.
Only a couple of moths in the trap last night, surprised I had those considering the weather. The trail cam' recorded yet another night of cracking images of the fox and hedgehog friendship.
At about 10 pm last night I was watching a monitor and noticed movement on a channel. It turned out to be a hedgehog in a box surrounding itself in viburnum leaves, curled up and went to sleep. Not there this morning however, clearly just resting.

Saturday 6th October 2018
Very wet and cold day, still raining as I write this at 10pm. Very windy now, this will start bringing the leaves down.
For nearly an hour now I have been watching a hedgehog on the monitor making a bed from viburnum leaves in one of the hog boxes. So rolled up now in leaves I can't see him.
Being so wet have spent the day indoors working on my 2019 calendar. Always a problem choosing just 12 photographs to use. Have selected now 20 images to choose from.
Tomorrow's weather looking much improved so hopefully will get a chance to work on project cables.

A warm and sunny day.
A day once again on project cable trenching. 16 cables now at the entrance to the observatory. Just need to cable ties and bury under the gravel now. Should get this done over the weekend.
Good to see the trail camera picked out a jay, not seen one for some while. Some cracking images also of fox romance.

Thursday 4th October 2018
Very warm and sunny.
Day working on trenching the camera cables into the lawn. Lawn rock hard so was some job to carry this through. Did finish late this afternoon, now I have to deal with 16 cables that stretch across the patio then into the observatory. Still pondering on how to do this.
Didn't check the trail cameras today so no info' tonight. The baby hedgehog did appear again early evening and again tonight at 6.45pm. By 7pm had finished a full dish of food, have been out and refilled. There are further dishes of food about the garden however.

Wednesday 3rd October 2018
Very warm and sunny.
Started preparing today for burying the 16 cables into the lawn. In places there was the need to clip small lengths of cable to trees, trellis etc depending where the cameras are installed.
Tomorrow the big job of burying the cables, ground is so hard for such a job. Reckon on two days for this part of the project.
Still a few moths in the trap each night, mostly repeats however. The squirrels are driving me 'nuts'. Not interested in burying acorns this year but bl**dy great walnuts. Being walnuts it means a much bigger hole to dig, don't think I will bother with plant pots in future. The decking is a carpet of acorns, think I will use them as ammunition!?

" 4 - Another lovely sunset tonight.
Tuesday 2nd October 2018
Very warm and sunny.
Connected the replacement bird box today. Fully installed again with a camera connected to the Observatory monitor. Different position this time however, now in the silver birch tree.
Also replaced a cable that was ripped out of another box.
Really not good with ladder work these days, might be best abseiling in the future?
Late this afternoon one of the baby hedgehogs appeared and rested in a resting box for some while before leaving for the entrance under the fence.
A rabbit sized rat has appeared in the food store, thought I was feeding a mouse. Do I offer this rat end of life care I wonder?
Good to see foxy and spike still friends, out most nights feeding together.

Monday 1st October 2018
A warm and sunny day.
A frustrating day trying to connect a birdbox camera to the monitor. The most stunning image but sadly only 3/4 of the screen filled. It appears this new range of camera is not compatible with a split screen monitor. Over to the experts now to sort.
Back in the Summer I posted wasps chewing wood from a rotting tree stump. I found the nest today only a matter of feet away from the stump. The nest is in a bird box.
Enjoyed birthday celebrations with Lulu and Clive tonight.
