Thursday 14th March 2019

Cold, windy and sunny. Another mixed up day.
For three years now I have attempted to create a wildflower meadow, sadly without success for a number of reasons.
I made the decision that for 2019 I would purchase wildflower plants suitable for butterflies, moths and bees.
An internet search and what a gem of a place I found. Butterfly Plants Nursery at Cheriton. A gem of a nursery, visited today and came away with a car full of plants. The nursery is operated by a husband and wife team in a field surrounded by home made greenhouses and polytunnels. All plants are grown from seed on site. It really is a gem of a nursery. BBC Gardeners World featured the nursery in 2016 apparently.
Next job is a major planting job. Will make a start this weekend. I have also abandoned the idea of a lawn which I have also attempted over three years and will now create one large wildflower plants area.
A nursery I will continue to support in the coming years.

Monday 11th March 2019

Very windy, dry and sunny all day. Temperature reached 14c this afternoon. There was a chill factor today.
A day in the garden. Roses pruned and border tidied of autumn leaves and general winter rubbish.
Fallen twigs and small branches from the gale  force wind of the last few days collected up and now added to the twig pile.
Male sparrowhawk visited the garden at breakfast time, was a little windswept. Female great spotted woodpecker also in the garden. Birds beginning to pair up now going by their movements. Plenty of moss in the lawn for nest building.
Lots of bees enjoying the sun today mostly in the alpine area.

Saturday 9th March 2019.

Mild, windy and sunny with temperature this afternoon reaching 12c.
A day outside working on project alpine house/garden. Twenty four alpine plants now planted in the concrete sinks and six in the alpine house replacing those that did not overwinter.
The alpine area now looking more like how I intended, just require the turf now to create the lawn. Turf still in short supply.
Nothing else to report today.
