Monday 8th September 2014

A very warm day with and extraordinary mild evening.
An interesting day starting with a visit to Heatherslaw water driven corn mill on part of a vast rural estate which includes the villages of Ford and Etal. Also visited the Lady Waterford Hall (once a school hall, closed in 1957). The paintings took Lady Waterford 16 years to paint in water colour so winter damp is a problem.
During the afternoon drove through Coldstream and the Tweed Valley to Kelso. Here we visited Floors Castle, the largest inhabited castle in Scotland.
On way back we stopped at a medieval Woodenhenge site, history as interesting as Stonehenge.
After a good meal back at the hotel and the evening so mild we enjoyed a walk around Bamburgh.
