Friday 18th May 2012
A brilliant day, at last! Was spoilt however by heavy showers early evening. Did allow me to pretty well complete the decking project, only three more posts and the rope to deal with now. Re-aligning the path will be next before starting the decking in front of the Useful Room.
Starlings have taken over the garden now, abso' love the fat blocks. Magpie created havoc for the poor Jay's today. Real fisty cuffs, just hope the Jay's are not chased away for good.
Excitement of the day was the hatching of four of the Painted Lady Chrysalides. Facinating to watch. As the Butterfly emerged it rested in a verticle position pumping it's wings to full size. This is done by forcing blood under pressure into the veins of their wings. It was quite alarming to see this red liquid coming from the tail of the Butterfly. Picture shows this quite clearly.
All pictures today are of this event over a period of two hours.
