Monday 29th April 2019

A warm and sunny day.
A visit to Henry Street this morning and Sheeplands this afternoon. Needed to purchase wildlife friendly hanging basket plants. Sadly proving difficult this year. Some success with Sheeplands so will return tomorrow to purchase. Sheeplands grow all their plants within the nursery which appeals to me.
Nothing else to report today.

Sunday 28th April 2019

A warm and sunny day, such a contrast to the last few days.
A day spent on Brownsea Island. A really interesting day out, was aware of certain history like the scout movement and John Lewis but had no idea the Island was so rich in history.

Nothing else to report today.

Saturday 27 April 2019

Saturday 27th April 2019

Much cooler today with temperature struggling to reach 12c this afternoon.
Project Museum finished. So pleased with the end result. I do have the lighting to connect up, have the fittings required so hopefully Monday I can connect to the power supply.
My word what some amazing images from the trail cameras last night. Coloured images of the cubs as they leave and enter the den.
The astonishing images of the night however were of the hedgehogs. Two male hedgehogs attempting to mate with a female. All this again the entrance to the den. Not sure what to make of it all, have never seen such activity before.
Amongst all this excitement there is disappointment however. A total lack of birds this season, suggestions have been expressed as to why this could be but none of it makes sense to me as nothing has changed from previous years in feed etc.

Friday 26 April 2019

Friday 26th April 2019

Mild but overcast with showers this afternoon. Temperature reached 16c this afternoon.
Attended a Community Museum meeting this morning. Getting nearer to achieving room status meaning we can soon start on creating a permanent display. Have also agreed to write an article on our achievements to date to include a write up on the Way Back When success.
This afternoon checked over 5000 SD images confirming again the hedgehogs are using the same den entrance as the fox cubs. Some remarkable images.
Swifts now confirmed as in the area (thanks Boyo for the info') so the swift call is now connected for another season.

Thursday 25th April 2019

Mild but mainly overcast with temperature reaching just 16c this afternoon.
Another back breaking day working on project museum. Today managed to display my collection of Dinky Toys and home made toys Dad made me as a young child. Hard to believe I kept these toys for so long, glad I did, brought back so many memories.
Nothing else to report today.

Wednesday 24 April 2019

Wednesday 24th April 2019

Mild and overcast with temperature reaching 17c this afternoon.
Morning spent looking at close on 8000 trail cam' images from just two SD cards. Most of the images were from three hours of hedgehog activity, they must have been completely knackered. If I had not seen card evidence I would not have believed they could make love making last so long?
Attended the Asbestos Support Group meeting this afternoon so nothing else to report.

Tuesday 23 April 2019

Tuesday 23rd April 2019.

A warm and sunny day with temperature this afternoon reaching 26c.
Another full day working on project museum. A few more shelves filled today displaying my Dinky Toy collection and games we played as children. Can't believe I retained all this stuff, glad I did.
SD cards once again confirmed hedgehogs and fox cubs still out each night. Lots of insect activity today. photographed all manner of different critters.

Easter Monday 22nd April 2019

Warm and sunny with temperature reaching 27c this afternoon.
A full day working on project museum. My energy levels have dropped so will be a few more days before this project is finished.

Nothing else to report.

Sunday 21 April 2019

Easter Sunday 21st April 2019

Very warm and sunny with temperature this afternoon reaching 30c. Hottest day of the year.
A full day working on project museum with a few more shelves filled. Hopefully will finish tomorrow.
The warm weather has brought out large numbers of bees and wasps with also a good variety of butterflies. The first damselfly of the season was seen on the bandstand roof, sadly photograph was very blurred.
Two young goldcrest also flirting about by the pond.
Have been reminded to connect the swift call as swifts allegedly have been seen locally.

Saturday 20 April 2019

Saturday 20th April 2019.

Another very warm and sunny day with again temperature reaching 27c this afternoon.
A full day working on Project Museum. All bottles washed and now on display. Some old wine and beer bottles with a Reading connection also displayed.
Two adult foxes were out last night, could these be two vixens as normally the dog fox moves on once the cubs are born?
The cubs are now using every part of the garden, they have now found the hedgehog food box outside the kitchen.
Good day for butterflies, small blues, orange tips, small and large whites and speckled woods.

Good Friday 19th April 2019

Very warm and sunny with temperature reaching 27c this afternoon.
Worked on Project Museum this morning, started to fill the shelves. Dealing with all the bottles first before starting on the larger items like coach lamps, a Victorian rubber massager and a vibrating washing machine.
This afternoon a spot of gardening. Lawn and edges cut. Sunflower seeds sown using my preferred method of filling plastic bottles and home made compost. The plastic bottles used must be nearly 15 years old now.
The trail cameras worked well last night capturing some superb moments. With four cubs to feed my food bill is going to be high this month. Just loving the hedgehog food. Hedgehogs are still very active with three out each night.
Managed to photograph a pair of orange tip butterflies and a speckled wood. Also managed a photograph of a bee fly.

Thursday 18 April 2019

Thursday 18th April 2019

Another very warm and sunny day with temperature once again reaching 22c this afternoon.
First thing this morning I looked at nearly 3000 trail camera images. Mostly of course of the fox family. Four cubs now confirmed. More cracking images, think I will create a further book recording the activity from the day I first noticed them on 12th April.
Project Museum now finished. Next step will be displaying all my objects, so much of it I'm now unsure whether there is enough room. Will make a start on this over the next few days. The items I rescued from the Well will take up a few shelves.

Wednesday 17th April 2019

Very warm and sunny with temperature this afternoon reaching 22c. Warmest day of the year so far I think.
Another hard day working on project museum. Cladding finished and managed 50% treatment with a green stain to match the log cabin.
Before I started work on the project I spent a couple of hours looking at over 3000 trail camera images. More cracking images of the fox cubs as they get used to the surroundings.
Nothing else to report today.

Tuesday 16 April 2019

Tuesday 16th April 2019

Much cooler today, a complete lack of sun, in fact a little rain this afternoon. Temperature reached a high of 14c.
A trip to Henry Street for further stocks of hedgehog food, fox cubs are eating lots each night. Have spoken with Spikes World and they will allow me to purchase in bulk direct. This will save me some money.
This afternoon looked at 5850 trail cam' images from activity during the last 48 hours. Terrific images of the fox family. Have completely taken over the Hogtel at night but living under the decking during the day. Have a camera at the opening so hopefully further images tomorrow to confirm 100%

Monday 15th April 2019

Warm and sunny all day with temperature today reaching a high of 17c.
Hard work today, all shelving now fixed in project museum. Lighting and some exterior work to carry out before I start filling the shelves. Looking good.
Sadly nothing else to report. A more restful day planned for tomorrow so time to check on fox family activity via the trial cameras.

Sunday 14 April 2019

Sunday 14th April 2019

On the cool side although sunny. Another overnight frost. Temperature reached a high of 12c this afternoon.
Enjoyed a dawn walk at Fobney Nature Reserve, cold, frosty, sun, musical chorus including a cuckoo, what is there not to like.
What a surprise the trail camera images confirmed last night. At 2.14am a fox cub emerged from the Hogtel (a disused dog kennel that the hedgehogs use to rest). Looking at nearly 4000 images it was clear there are 3 cubs.
Will be watching from the hide tonight as gave a camera set to the monitor from the Hogtel. Will probably also sleep in the hide tonight.
What excitement?

Saturday 13th April 2019

Warm and sunny after a frosty start with temperature reaching 15c this afternoon.
Another day spent working on project museum. Coming along good with two walls now covered with shelves.
Unfortunately nothing else to report.

Friday 12 April 2019

Friday 12th April 2019

Another frost last night, however the day stayed reasonably warm with temperature today reaching a high of 15c.
A day working on project Museum so unable to report on wildlife activity today.
Museum coming along good with more shelves fixed.

Thursday 11 April 2019

Thursday 11th April 2019

After a cold start and a hard overnight frost the day was very warm and sunny with the temperature reaching 16c this afternoon.
Made a start on my latest project creating a museum from the disused summerhouse. After a little refurbishment I will then fit out with shelves for the museum items. The museum theme will be 'how we used to live'. Will enjoy this project as so many of my objects hold memories for me from my grandparents time living in Reading all their life.

Wednesday 10 April 2019

Wednesday 10th April 2019

Very warm and sunny with temperature reaching 16c this afternoon.
A day in the garden. Made a start on my latest project. The years old empty sunroom is being transformed into a museum. Made a start on the electrics today, this room has the main power supply for the garden.
After being empty for a number of years the spiders, as you would expect have taken over. Cobwebs and spiders fill the room, can't bring myself to disturb so will have to work round them!
The first wildflower plant flowered today in the wildflower plants area I created during the Early Spring. The plant is a Silene Dioica.
Other wildflowers from daisies to dandelions also at their best, loving the sun.
Tufty has penetrated the food store again, at a complete loss as to how it gets in. My only option now is to empty the store and brick round the base from the inside.
My 2018 Wildlife books arrived today, not 100% happy. Two spelling errors and texts to the images are not good. Could do better.

Tuesday 9 April 2019

Tuesday 9th April 2019

Cold, wet and miserable. Temperature only reaching 9c this afternoon. 10mm of rain since midnight.

Nothing to report today as out with John and Hilly. Catching up after Hilly's recent operation.

Monday 8 April 2019

Monday 8th April 2019

Mild and overcast with temperature again reaching 13c this afternoon.
Mrs.Blackcap appeared in the garden this morning, not seen since January so good to see the return. The male still elusive.
Still no sign of any birds nesting, a pied wagtail however was collecting bird food again so must be a nest close by.

Funeral today of Trevor.
Trevor, have many memories of course from those early days when we first met all those decades ago. Our snooker nights and that trick ball I will never forget. I still have the ball. Your enthusiasm when working for me at Motorglass. The time you decided to start your own Landscaping Company and the huge sack of daffodil bulbs you dropped off for me when I was expecting a small bag!
I still have the furry pumpkin you presented me, hanging in the Leaping Frog.
You were a credit to your family and friends in the way you dealt with this most awful of diseases Trevor. RIP my friend and thanks for the memories. Pumpkin.

Sunday 7th April 2019

Mild, overcast day with temperature today reaching 13c this afternoon.
Today spent on editing the 200 odd photographs of the University Reunion event yesterday. Now on a stick ready to be uploaded to dropbox so everyone can see.

Nothing else to report.
