Sunday 8th October 2017

Another superb day, mild and sunny all day. Temp' today reaching 17c this afternoon.
Day spent in the garden today trimming and composting the passion flower climber which had taken over and was threatening the existence of the honeysuckle and pyracantha climbers.
Trimming these shrubs and climbers has exposed many insects clearly in the first stages of hibernation. Am sure they will all re-settle, plenty of cover left after trimming.
Good news, two hedgehogs out last night. Still missing one however, known as patch as has discoloured areas on its spines. Next door also passed over a coconut shell that had appeared in their garden. Now I use these as bowls for feed and often go missing, could this have been what the fox had in its mouth two nights ago? Hope so.
Managed a good photograph of a red admiral in the silver birch tree in this afternoons sun. May this weather continue. More ladybirds spotted today, clearly sense cold days ahead?
Did a bit of pond clearing this afternoon, amazed at the number of larva still on the surface, clearly a good sign for Summer 2018?
