Saturday 14th June 2014

Wow, the most amazing thunder storm last night. Pretty impressive, so annoyed I didn't try for any photographs. 27mm of rain also recorded.
Rest of the day was a little mixed. Very warm but with showers and at times very overcast.
Resting day today as pretty tired after yesterday at the NEC and then loss of sleep due to the storm.
Little action from the Swifts today. Wren surprised me by starting to build another nest for a second brood. Nest being built in a straw pouch.
The young Squirrels were busy in the drey box. Not sure what they were up to as drey built in front of the camera.
Now for the drama - I had not long rescued a young Starling from the Observatory which had flew in and was knocked out by the bar door (was a good five minutes before I was happy to release her into the garden) when astonishingly a Sparrowhawk flew into the same bar door with a Greenfinch. Both stunned but sadly the Greenfinch died. Once the SH had come to it went berserk. Crashing into the blinds and bar door to the point I was convinced it would break its neck. At the end it fell to the floor completely stunned or worn out. As I went to pick it up it flapped its wings and flew out as if nothing had happened. Extraordinary.
Picture 1 - First bowl of fruit of the season, can only improve?
     "      2 - Stunned Starling.
"     3 - Sawfly on the Gooseberry Bush.
"     4 - Tufty on the look out.
     "     5 - Wren with building material.
